The sign up process and multi-factor authentication for individuals

This guidance is for new users only.

There are four steps to the sign-up process.

1. Create your account

A. If you are the first person to use the tool for your organisation, fill out the Create account form on the login page, then follow the steps below.

B. If your organisation is already using the tool, ask a colleague with admin access to invite you as a user (see User roles and managing users). You'll be sent an email invitation. Click the Accept Invite button to open the tool in your browser. Choose Create Account (not Log In) and follow the steps below.

Password criteria are applied to prevent known unsafe passwords from being used.

2. Verify your email address

3. Set up two-factor authentication – scan QR code with authenticator app

New to authenticator apps? Read Setting up and using an authenticator app.

4. Set up two-factor authentication – save recovery codes

Why The Everyone Project requires MFA

The tool holds confidential and sensitive data, so we do everything we can to secure the system. A password on its own can be guessed, phished or leaked. MFA adds a second check: a short-lived code generated on a device only you hold. Even if someone obtains your password, they can't get into your account without that code.

MFA is a condition of using the tool, not an optional setting, and it can't be switched off.
